Our Story
Friendly, fuzzy cattle
Welcome to the Five Acre Ranch! We are a small farm in southwest Iowa that breed and raise standard highland cattle. We occasionally will have spring and fall babies available throughout the year, most will be documented with HHCA and some registered through AHCA. Thank you for stopping by, if you have any questions, send us a message.

Our History
Founded in 2011, we’re proud to be one of the self-made, small hobby farms in the great midwest area. We’ve always had a love for livestock and have raised all sorts of critters from goats, pigs, and chickens to what we love today - highland cattle. We regularly have calves and we sell some of the cutest, fuzziest cattle in the area. Experience a Five Acre Ranch calf (or two) for yourself! We offer a lifetime of support and information throughout your journey. While we don’t claim to be experts, and are always learning ourselves, and we would love to learn with you!
Meet Our Crew

Five Acre Ranch’s Cherry (Cherry)
Cherry is one of our original girls. She is a friendly cow that enjoys treats and being brushed. Her friendly nature and excellent confirmation earns her a “favorite” status amongst the crew.

Five Acre Ranch’s Leslie
Leslie is a gentle cow with great confirmation. She has raised us a future herd sire. While she isn’t receptive of pets or brushing, she does enjoy following you around looking for treats you may have brought her. She runs the roost amongst all the ladies.

Five Acre Ranch’s Galaxy
Galaxy is our photogenic gal. I don’t think I’ve ever taken a bad photo of her. It’s almost like she poses. She is one of friendliest, older ladies, that is lower on the pecking order. She loves to be groomed and on a hot summer day, loves to be sprinkled with the hose.

Five Acre Ranch’s Bubbles
Bubbles came right along with the purchase of Cherry. She is one of the originals. She has excellent confirmation and raises great calves. She enjoys finding you for treats.

Five Acre Ranch’s Buttercup
Buttercup is another friendly one of ours. She was raised with kids and enjoys laying around being brushed. She also enjoys a sprinkle from the hose in the summer.

Five Acre Ranch’s Latte
Latte is a young lady with excellent confirmation and lots of hair. She’s expecting her first calf fall 2022 and we can’t hardly wait to see what she produces.

Five Acre Ranch’s Charlotte
Charlotte joined us this last winter, coming to us already bred due early Fall 2022. We love her confirmation and are anxious to see what she gives us.

Five Acre Ranch’s Magic
You couldn’t ask for more hair than what Magic has. She is stunning. She also has come to us bred and it’s a mystery. We are excited to see what she’s been carrying come early fall of 2022.

RSW Merida
We purchased Merida this last spring. She is a nicely bred young cow. She’s friendly and enjoys company. We are looking for her mate for breeding soon!

WKF Jura
We purchased Jura and her Dam (Maple) together. They are both very friendly, personable, and have great genetics. We are excited to bred Jura winter 2022 for her first 2023 calf.

SKT Isabel (Carrot)
We purchased Carrot as a packaged deal with Jura, Maple, and Merida. We wouldn’t have normally bought a heifer as young as her, but we are glad we did. She is the sweetest heifer we’ve ever had. She loves attention, she licks your face, and is just a complete pet.

Caileag of Maple K
Maple is part of our packaged deal. We purchased her bred and she just had a heifer calf for us out of GOF Ralph. She is a very laid back cow, very personable, and loves the water hose.

Star
Star is one of our highland cross ladies. She is an exquisite powerhouse. She is bred to Finn for a fall calf.

Matilda
Matild is a short and stocky black cow. She is curious, and will come visit you for treats. She has a lot of hair and has had one calf for us thus far.
